Cauliflower Steaks with Cheese Dip & Crispy Bacon

Cauliflower sliced into steaks, seasoned and drizzled with olive oil, lemon juice and zest, then oven-baked until golden brown and tender. Each steak is covered with a #JustDelicious chilli and garlic cheese sauce, topped with crispy BBQ bacon rashers and garnished with fresh basil and chives.

Cheese Dip

onion, chopped

2 cloves

garlic, chopped

60 ml

olive oil

20 ml

sage, chopped

20 ml



red chilli, chopped

125 ml

Parmesan cheese

125 ml

white cheddar



200 g

Eskort Rindless Streaky Bacon

15 ml

Eskort Secret Braai Spice or BBQ spice

30 ml

olive oil

Cauliflower Steaks


2 large heads


60 ml

olive oil


salt and pepper


lemon, zest and juice


fresh basil

60 ml



Cheese Dip:

  • Add the butter and olive oil to a saucepan over medium to high heat.

  • Fry the onions, garlic, chilli, sage and thyme until the onions are soft.

  • Whisk the flour and milk together.

  • Slowly add this to the saucepan while stirring.

  • Reduce heat and add the cheese.  

  • Simmer until the cheese has melted.

  • Season to taste with salt and pepper. 


  • Preheat the oven to 190°C.

  • Place the bacon on a baking tray lined with baking paper.

  • Drizzle with olive oil and season with BBQ spice.

  • Bake in the oven for 10 - 15 minutes until the fat has rendered and the bacon is crispy. 

Cauliflower Steaks:

  • Slice the cauliflower into large slices.

  • Place the cauliflower steaks on a baking tray and drizzle with olive oil.

  • Add lemon juice, zest and season with salt and pepper.

  • Bake for 20 minutes until golden but still tender. 


  • Ladle generous amounts of cheese sauce over the cauliflower steaks and add crispy bacon.

  • Finish with a handful of basil and chives.
