Inspired by a recipe Mpai Motaung 'once came up with out of mischief and boredom'.

Enjoy the deliciousness of Viennas, chakalaka and mash reinvented as you’ve never seen them before.

500 g

Eskort Smoked Viennas


potatoes, boiled and mashed


onion, chopped

1 clove

garlic, chopped

250 ml (1 C)


250 ml (1 C)

cheddar cheese

250 ml (1 C)


45 ml (3 T)

oil for frying


  • Preheat the oven to 190°C.

  • In a frying pan over moderate heat, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until glossy.

  • Combine mash, onions, chakalaka, cheese and cream.

  • Transfer to an oven dish and bake the mash until charred.

  • Heat the Viennas in a frying pan.


  • Serve Viennas with the baked mash as a dip.
